PROJECT OVERVIEW

Smith & Gorham Relicensing Projects
 

Central Rivers Power NH, LLC (CRP) own and operate the Gorham Hydroelectric and J. Brodie Smith Hydroelectric Projects, which are both on the Androscoggin River, Coos County, New Hampshire.

 

The J. Brodie Smith Hydroelectric Project (Project) is located in central New Hampshire in the city of Berlin, New Hampshire. The Project boundary also extends from the dam downstream approximately 2,500 feet and upstream approximately 1,200 feet. The Project boundary generally includes the reservoir, dam, powerhouse, and tailrace.

 

The J. Brodie Smith Hydroelectric Project consists of a 500-foot-long, 24-foot-high, masonry and concrete gravity U-shaped dam, a reservoir with a surface area of 8 acres, a spillway, a power canal, a powerhouse containing one generating unit. The current license will expire on July 31, 2024. The J. Brodie Smith and Gorham Projects are operated for hydroelectric generation only.

The Gorham Hydroelectric Project (Project) is located in northern New Hampshire within the City of Gorham. The Gorham Project is one of seven hydroelectric projects within an 11-mile reach of the Androscoggin River between Berlin and Shelburne, New Hampshire.

 

The Gorham Hydroelectric Project consists of a 20-foot-high timber crib dam, a reservoir with a surface area of 32 acres, a spillway, a power canal, a powerhouse containing four generating units. The Project boundary generally includes the reservoir, dam, powerhouse, and tailrace. The current licenses will expire on July 31, 2024.

 

CRP is not proposing to add capacity or make any physical modifications to either Project under their new licenses.
